Not Every Trip Is a Retreat — And That’s Okay

In today’s world, the word “retreat” is everywhere.
It’s become a buzzword — added to everything from business masterminds to weekend getaways and group cruises. And while it sounds beautiful and enticing (and let’s be honest — it sells), it’s important to pause and ask:
👉 Is it actually a retreat… or is it a trip with a trendy name?
As someone who creates transformational experiences for women, and plans vacations too (Travel with Jenn at Key To The World Travel). I believe this distinction matters more than ever — not just for the sake of marketing, but for the integrity of what we’re offering.
Let’s unpack the BIG difference.
🔥 A Retreat Is Designed for Transformation
A true retreat isn’t just a change of scenery — it’s a shift in who you are when you return.
It’s a curated, intentional experience built around a core purpose: healing, realignment, empowerment, clarity, reconnection — whatever your transformation may be.
It’s:
Intimate (often under 20 people)
Structured with intention
Focused on shared, supportive experiences
Led by someone who’s guiding you through more than just an itinerary
The destination is part of the magic — but the inner work is the main event and what you leave with is more than some trinket souvenir.

🌍 Group Travel Is About the Destination
Let’s be clear: there’s nothing wrong with group travel. In fact, I love it! But it serves a different purpose.
Group trips are about exploration, adventure, and checking the boxes:
See the sights
Snap the photos
Eat the food
Do the thing
These are incredible experiences. But they’re not the same as an immersive retreat container where the focus is on who you’re becoming. (But trust me I incorporate those experiences into our retreats but with a twist)
Group travel says, “Look what we saw!”,a retreat says, “Look what I ________.” (fill in the blank)
💡 Why the Language Matters
When someone signs up for a retreat, they’re not just booking a vacation — they’re saying yes to a personal transformation. You are putting trust in us to hold space for something real.
So when we use the word “retreat,” we use it intentionally.
✨ If it’s about healing, alignment, purpose, power — call it a retreat.✨
If it’s about adventure, sightseeing, and fun — call it a trip.
Both are valuable. But they’re not interchangeable.
The women I serve? They’re done with surface-level.They’re not looking for another vacation. They’re ready for bold, beautiful breakthroughs.

Because let’s be honest: the world doesn’t need more Pinterest-worthy vacations. It needs more women ripping off their masks, burning the rulebooks, and finally showing up for themselves.
