You finally block two hours on your calendar to finish something that actually matters.
Then the text comes.
“Do you have five minutes?”
Someone stops by your office.
“Quick question.”
Your phone rings. You answer because…what if it's important?
Then someone needs you to fix something they probably could have handled themselves.
Two hours later, your work is still sitting there.
So you finish it tonight.
That's a boundary problem.
And it doesn't just steal two hours.
It means you're answering emails while making dinner.
Thinking about tomorrow while you're supposed to be watching TV show with your partner.
Checking your phone when you're out with your family.
And wondering why you're exhausted when you “didn't even get that much done.”
Meanwhile, everyone around you has learned something:
If they need you, you'll make yourself available.
That's the part we have to change.
This week in Leadership Lab, we're getting into what boundaries actually look like in real life—and what happens when people don't particularly like the new ones.
And this work goes deeper than learning how to say no.
It's learning to recognize:
what actually NEEDS you
what can wait
what belongs to someone else
what you're doing just because you've always done it
Because getting away for a few days won't fix a life you come home and immediately lose control of again.
OFF DUTY is about figuring out what needs to be different when you come back.
Your calendar.Your availability.Your expectations.Your boundaries.
And yes—even your own habits.
Start with us Wednesday at Leadership Lab, 10:30 AM Eastern.
If you're ready for more than the weekly conversation, ask me about OFF DUTY.
This is the magic that gets you far enough away from the constant interruptions to see the patterns, decide what has to change, and build the plan for what happens when you go home.
